Bladder Cancer Stages
Just like the typical cancers, the stages of bladder cancer are also sorted into 4. These different stages reflect the spread of the tumor in the tissues, or just in the systems of the body.
During the earlier or first stage, the bladder is termed stage 0. This is also called Carcinoma in various instances. This is the stage wherein the cancer cells are located in the linings located in the bladder. If by any chance, swelling or even lumps is not that very visible during the examination internally, treatments will still be given out. There are different treatments being given to Stage 0. This is the time when cystoscope is being used in order to take out the cancer. There are also other treatments for stage 0 such as intravesical biological therapy, photodynamic therapy and even chemotherapy too. During the 1st stage, the cancer cells which are malignant had spread in the bladder linings already. The survival rate for this stage figures 80%. The options for this stage when it comes to treatment include transurenthral resection, radiation therapy and even the removal of the part affected and infected.
As for the 2nd stage, the cancer cells are expected to have spread on the regions of the tissues already. These tissues can be found on the bladder. The survival rate for this is 63%. It had dropped as compared to that of the first stage. There will be a surgery required in this. There are also times when the lymph nodes are also being taken. This is done once it has been confirmed that they are really infectious.
During the 3rd stage, which is so close to the last stage, the tissues which surround the bladder have been infected already? This is for certain. With this stage, there will be a need for an aggressive treatment. This is done to cope with the emerging tumor. The sad truth about this is that there is a 46% survival in this particular bladder cancer stage.
As for the 4th stage of cancer, the cancer cells have grown already. This will affect the other parts of the body too. This is a process which is known as Metastasis. With this stage, the survival rate becomes lower. 15% is usually the figure in this particular stage.
